Lymphatic massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage, is a gentle, non-invasive massage technique that is ideal for reducing swelling and bruising after cosmetic surgery procedures, or to improve overall wellness.

What is the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is a network of lymph vessels designed to filter waste products from the body and aid the immune system. Lymph moves slowly through the body and can easily become congested.

The goal of lymphatic massage is to make the lymphatic system more efficient. Therapists trained in lymphatic massage can use a feather light touch in the direction of lymph flow to move lymph from areas of congestion.

Many clients find the gentle, painless techniques of lymphatic massage relaxing. Some clients even fall asleep during their session!

Lymphatic Massage for Overall Wellness

Lymphatic massage promotes overall wellness by making the lymphatic system more efficient. Issues with the lymphatic system can occur due to cancer treatments, injury, and illness. In addition to reducing areas of swelling (lymphedema), lymphatic massage helps the immune system work better.

Post-Op Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic massage treatments can begin as soon as 24 hours after surgery. It is an ideal therapy after liposuction, Brazilian butt lift, and tummy tuck procedures.

Swelling after surgery is caused by trauma and inflammation from the procedure. This is a normal reaction to surgery, but can cause discomfort and bruising. Lymphatic massage helps to move the fluid by gently pumping it back into the lymph vessels.

Many doctors prescribe lymphatic massage after liposuction to make sure their patients get the best possible results from their procedure. However, lymphatic massage does not require a prescription and it is fine to self-refer in order to see the benefits of treatment.

Benefits of Lymphatic Massage After Surgery

Reduced swelling and bruising

Lymphatic massage removes stagnant areas of lymph and cellular waste products and reduces inflammation in the affected areas, which can drastically decrease swelling and help bruises to heal more quickly. Reduction in inflammation can help with discomfort felt by many patients after surgery.

Prevention of fibrosis (formation of scar tissue)

After a cosmetic procedure, the body has to create new connective tissue to heal the wounds created by surgery. When a lot of scarring happens after surgery, the tissue thickens and becomes tight. Scarring decreases naturally over time, but some scarring can be permanent and can affect the final appearance of the area after healing.

We use cupping, cross-fiber friction, and some deep tissue techniques to prevent tissue from losing its pliability. Lymphatic massage can help prevent permanent scarring and improve skin texture in the area. We want you to look and feel your best!

Faster healing time

Patients heal more quickly when inflammation is reduced. The lymph system is also important to the body’s immune response and improving the movement of lymph can reduce the risk of infection after surgery.

Sarah’s progress after Lipo 360 & BBL surgery, 10 sessions of lymphatic massage

I started seeing Jenna for lymphatic massage after having lipo on my arms and inner thigh. I was starting to experience hardness and swelling in my arms, and in addition to doing manual lymph drainage, she used warm stones to loosen up the tough tissue. I felt a million times better than before!  She’s very qualified, and explains things so that I can understand. I never knew about the lymphatic system before my surgeries, and I definitely didn’t know how helpful they would be to my recovery afterwards. I’m so glad I discovered Healing Kneads Massage. The space is small and cozy, and the therapists are skilled, professional, and compassionate!

OMG! I feel so much better! I had a BBL and Lipo 360 in August, and I wasn’t prepared for all the pain I would feel afterwards! My doctor recommended I do a series of lymphatic massages to help me get rid of the swelling. My therapist, Morgan, called me before my appointment and put my mind at ease. I was afraid it would be more painful. She explained that lymphatic drainage is a gentle process, just to move fluid. When I came in for my session, she was so good with me. She has a soothing way about her, and her hands are magic! I left feeling less pain, and I’m liking how everything is turning out.

Lymphatic Massage Before and After Your Surgery

It is ideal to receive one or two lymphatic treatments prior to surgery to prepare for the procedure.

After surgery, the number of sessions needed will depend on the type and location of surgery. Many different things can influence healing time, but typically 5-10 sessions are sufficient to see a significant improvement.

Sessions can be paid for individually. We also offer discounted packages for multiple sessions.
